  • Playce – critical design

There seems to never be enough time. A large part of this is due to our focus on the future and the past. We are often focused on the outcome of a task rather than enjoying or experiencing the process of doing it. Child’s play is a time when our thoughts are process-focused. When we are playing, the outcome is not important; only the enjoyment of the task at hand. By playing, we savor time instead of trying to save it.
Playce was a quarter tonne of fine sand to play with in a vibrating pedestal. Everything you created would shake flat again. The player could only enjoy the process, since the outcome was shaken away.  Check out the playce book for more experiments and research.
